Incorporating a healthy diet is the most important first step for anyone that is on a journey of attaining healthy hair. The secret to thick, strong, shiny strands is not in a bottle of shampoo or conditioners, it all starts from the inside. Eating a variety of healthy foods will give you the hair of your dreams.

Eat some of the following food rich in essential nutrients to begin growing your healthiest hair ever.

  1. If you are a meat eater, eat red meat filled with iron and zinc at lease 2x a week.
  2. Protein is essential. Protein is one of the building blocks of life, promoting cell growth and repair. Eggs are rich in protein, nuts, greek yogurt, meat etc…
  3. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Eat fatty fish (like salmon) twice a week for hydrated hair, or take up to 1 gram a day of a DHA and EPA supplement. In addition to silky hair, omega-3s may help relieve depression and are a proven heart-helper.

Supplements/ Hair growth vitamins can be used to get the necessary nutrients however some supplements/vitamins contain additive, synthetic ingredients and artificial sugar, so be careful of the ones you chose. Keep in mind it is always better to get your vitamins from the food you eat.

Now go ahead and eat yourself to healthier hair.

2. Exercise

Exercise is one of the most important Key for good health and good hair. Exercising causes us to sweat and through sweat, toxins and waste substances are flushed out from the skin pores and helps to unclog the hair follicles, giving enough space for the new hair to grow. Exercising also increases blood flow to our scalp. The increased blood flow brings with it more nutrients and more oxygen. This provides nourishment to the hair roots, and thereby promoting healthy hair growth.

Not exercising and eating healthy is like applying oil on the scalp and leaving it on without massaging. It doesn’t help much. So even if we may we eat healthy, by not exercising we deprive our muscles, skin and scalp of effective nutrients exchange. The result is lifeless skin and hair.

Keep in mind hair growth is never caused by exercise however regular cardio exercise can improve your health and mood to eliminate stress which is a common cause of hair loss.

Get out there and start exercising and take it one day at a time. The result will be life changing.

 3. Clean Scalp

Hair grows from the scalp therefore it is important to keep the scalp clean and nourished. Incorporation a simple routine to keep it cleans from excess sebum and environmental stressor such as dust.

Try washing hair at least once a week or at least once every 2 weeks. Use a shampoo that is designed for curly hair because it is often designed to clean the hair without drying it out.

Remember hair grows from the scalp.

4. Dusting

Hair is always growing. The concern is how to retain the length that grows.  Dusting is very effective in retaining length. So you ask, what is “dusting”? Dusting is a techniques used to get rid of damaged hair ends. It is similar to trimming however it is done more often to reduce damage from moving up the hair strands.

Try dusting at least once a month. Dusting once a month can also help to reduce tangles and single stand knot. It will also make your styles look better and who doesn’t want that.
